MOUNT ASSINIBOINE ELOPEMENT

HELICOPTER BACKPACKING ELOPEMENT IN THE MOUNTAINS

JESS + ROBIN

MOUNT ASSINIBOINE BACKPACKING ELOPEMENT

Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park is a remote area in the Canadian Rocky Mountains that borders Banff National Park in Alberta and Kootenay National Park in BC. The only way you can access this stunning place is by hiking 30km or by helicopter in Canmore or Mt Shark. Once you are in the park you can camp at Maggog Lake, stay in the rustic Nasiet huts or treat yourself at the beautiful Mount Assiniboine Lodge. The limited accommodation makes this area a truly special and isolated experience for anyone who loves nature and being in the mountains.

THE PERFECT PLACE FOR YOUR ADVENTURE ELOPEMENT

I always suggest you choose your location on what you want to experience on your day. Jess and Robin currently live in Ontario but lived in rural BC for years and really missed exploring in the mountains and camping. For their elopement day they wanted to experience something different and go on an unforgettable adventure. They got engaged at the stunning Lake Ohara and really wanted to go somewhere just as beautiful for their elopement. They had always wanted to explore Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park and this to them was the perfect opportunity to create some amazing memories there. When planning the logistics of their day, they decided to take a helicopter in one way and hike the 30km on the way out. This way they could see and experience more.

HIKING AND CAMPING IN THE CANADIAN ROCKY MOUNTAINS

Planning an adventure camping elopement is a lot different from planning a traditional wedding. It’s just you and your loved one, your backpack, tent, a map and your hiking boots! Once you pick your dream location and book your campsite you can really start thinking about what you want to experience together.

We met up at Alpine Helicopters in Canmore with our bags packed and ready to get on the helicopter. The short flight in is incredible, flying over alpine lakes and beside jagged cliffs. We were then reunited with our backpacks and started our short hike to our campsite. We kept our timeline open so we could make plans to take advantage of the best weather. We also created a shared google doc with maps, hiking options, packing lists and location ideas for their elopement day. Once we set up camp a little storm rolled through and since we had our tents side by side we unzipped the flys, strung them together and hung out sharing wine and lots of laughs. We quickly realized that we had so much in common and became very close over the 3 days spent together.

SUNSET HIKE TO NIBLET AND VOWS WITH THE MOST INCREDIBLE VIEWS

Jess and Robin packed in their wedding clothes and knew they wanted to have a first look and say their vows together at sunset the next day. We decided to make the most of the amazing afternoon and headed out on a hike up to the top of the peak right behind our tents. My partner Matt came along to help carry gear and take BTS footage of the trip. He kept pulling out little surprises for Jess and Robin; Mini champagne bottles after their ceremony, twinkly lights for the tents, sparklers on our last night, candy ect. I had no idea what he was up to and it truly was so funny and thoughtful.

YOUR BEST ADVENTURE YET

Everything about this adventure was so beautiful and I hope it inspires you to dream up something amazing, different and true to you two for your elopement day.

I can’t thank Jess and Robin enough for inviting us along, we had the best time and hope we can plan another adventure with them in the future. Saying bye to them on the last day was harder than we thought and we’ll forever hold this adventure close to our hearts.
